EXCITED families have been enjoying the first ice rink in Minehead for five years.

The rink was installed in Wellington Square from Saturday to yesterday as part of the Minehead Winter Festival, which ran until Sunday.

Minehead Visitor Information Centre manager Jill Homewood said: “After resurrecting the idea of the ice rink, unfortunately we have been hit by bad weather every day. But in spite of that, turn-out has been good.

“Families have been having great fun – kids don’t mind getting wet as long as they are having fun.”

The festival is designed to offer more activities for residents and visitors in a bid to reinvigorate the town and has also included guided walks, lantern-making workshops, theatre, special play sessions and a roller disco.
