EXTREME swimmer Haydn Welch will travel to Slovenia to attempt an Ice Mile swim after discovering that water temperatures in England are too warm for the challenge to count.

The rules specify that temperatures must not exceed 4.99 degrees for the one-mile swim and after two false starts in England Haydn has decided to go abroad.

Professional marathon swimmer and record-breaker Martin Brel, who swam the length of the Amazon River in 66 days, will join him in Slovenia.

Haydn, 55, who will swim in a standard costume, said: “It is a shame that I have to go somewhere else but I am told it will be three degrees there and I will be in good company with Martin.”

Haydn is attempting the challenge on Saturday, February 23, to raise money for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel. He is also running a competition to win a watch worth £75.
