The Castle Green pub is being sold, landlord says

Landlord Carlos Alfaro. Landlord Carlos Alfaro.

THE Castle Green pub in Taunton is in the process of being sold.

The iconic pub, in the heart of the £3million Castle Green development, will be sold to another pub company.

Carlos Alfaro, who has been landlord for four years, said he has accepted an offer but didn’t want to name the firm taking over until everything is finalised.

He said: “It is part of a new challenge for me and also because of the uncertainty of business on Castle Green.

“It does not fill you with great joy when you see wagon after wagon digging the place up.

“It is the right time of year to have a refurb and the pub needs some TLC and investment and they [the buyers] want to do it.”

What do you think of the move? Did you like the pub? Let us know.

One of the best pubs in Taunton, of which we haven't got many left open.
Beer always kept well and the food really good.
Hope it stays selling decent Real Ales.

CAMRA Somerset are particularly keen on this pub, think it has been their pub of the year before.

Shame if the emphasis is taken away from real ale but we wont know until its changed hands.

Perhaps it will be one of the bigger chain pubs, there is no Smith and Jones pubs in Taunton, their is the Cornhill in Bridgwater and some in Exmouth I think.

The Drawing Room nearby is advertising in the Somerset CAMRA Pints of View magazine, mainly Quantock Ales apparently
