Junction24 saves two Brewhouse Theatre acts but dozens more still searching
DOZENS of acts are still frantically searching for venues to perform at after their shows were cancelled following the closure of the Brewhouse Theatre, it has emerged this week.
The County Gazette also understands that various venues around Taunton Deane are speaking to agents of the Brewhouse’s larger acts, including comedian Al Murray, as they compete to hostthe cancelled shows.
Taunton Scouts and Guides are breathing a sigh of relief after a venue was found to hold their annual Gang Show. The group had strutted their stuff at the Brewhouse for 23 years but the show, which runs from April 9-13, will now be performed at Junction24 on the outskirts of Bridgwater.
Show director Dave Mullen said: “We are really thrilled the show can still go ahead.”
Patch Jobson, from Junction24, added: “We don’t want regional audiences or community groups to suffer when we have the space, availability and passion ensure shows go ahead.”
The Brewhouse closed its doors on Wednesday, February 20, with administrators taking control of the 352-seat venue the day after.
A spokesman for the administrators told the County Gazette this week they are working with groups who want to save the Brewhouse but no decision is likely to be made until around the middle of April.
They added: “A report will be issued to creditors within eight weeks of administrators stepping in which will outline what has been done.”
* Another show due to be at the Brewhouse, Rich Peppiatt’s ‘One Rogue Reporter’, will also be hosted at Junction24 on March 28. Call 01278- 662200 for ticket details.
* The number of people who have signed the County Gazette’s Save Our Brewhouse campaign has reached nearly 700 signatures.
Our campaign is there to show administrators and funding bodies the strength of support in the community to re-open the Brewhouse Theatre.
You can still sign the petition yourself by visiting www.somersetcounty gazette.co.uk/brewhouse or signing the paper form on this page.
