Pro-supermarket group launched in Williton
A PETITION has been started by a group set up to show villagers’ support for a proposed supermarket development in Williton.
Members of ‘Progress for Williton’ are encouraging others who feel the same to sign the petition, which urges West Somerset Council’s planning committee to approve David Gliddon’s application to build a supermarket behind his existing shop in Bank Street, when it discusses the matter next month.
This comes after a group which has campaigned against the plans since they were resubmitted last month, the ‘Love Williton Action Group’, has attracted almost 2,000 signatures for its petition.
Simon Bruford, of ‘Progress for Williton’, said: “We are a group of locals who are in favour of the supermarket, along with trying to get other things happening in the village, such as improved facilities for kids and a village or community hall.
"Until now, it seems the people who are for the supermarket have kept quiet, but they are now starting to come out of the woodwork in response to the Love Williton group.”
