A COMMUNITY butcher is celebrating after achieving a five-star food hygiene rating, having previously struggled to meet tough new standards.

Under guidance on protecting against E.coli issued by central Government, Bishop’s Hull Butchers was in danger of failing the inspection, but proprietor Tim Pope has worked to improve standards and achieve the highest rating.

Taunton Deane Council environment chief Cllr Ken Hayward said: “This highlights the efforts of Bishop’s Hull Butchers with council officers to ensure it’s providing its customers with a hygienically safe product.”

Mr Pope, who has just taken on the running of Bishop’s Hull Post Office, said: “Due to the new legislation there were many changes we had to make.

“This involved extensive refurbishment and building works, and purchasing new machinery.”
