AN intrepid duo are preparing for a round-the-world motorcycle trip to raise money for charity.

Jon Boulton, 50, managing director of Bishops Lydeard-based engineering business SCM Handling, will set off on Monday (March 25) with Andrew Don, 30, former director of Centristic in Newton Abbot, who has moved home to Watchet to save up for the adventure.

The trip, dubbed JABA MUNDUS – combining the acronym of Jon and Andrew’s Biking Adventure and the Latin word for ‘world’ – will cover more than 35,000 miles across 45 countries while raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK.

After leaving Plymouth the pair will cross mainland Europe, Turkey, Georgia and Russia before moving on to Canada, the USA and South America on some of the world’s toughest roads with no support crew.

Jon, who will be leaving wife Lorraine to run the business and keep his four children in order, said: “Andrew and I have known each other seven years, having worked together in the past, but it’s going to be a bit different being together 24/7, battling the elements on the bikes and wild camping!”

To find out more about the trip, which has been in the making for 18 months, visit www.jabamundus.com, which will have a live link following the pair’s progress.
