A PASSIONATE foodie has launched a project to teach young people and families in Norton Fitzwarren about diet and cooking.
Phil Nadin, leader of Cooking for Change, has secured £7,500 from the Big Lottery Fund to kickstart the project, which aims to teach people employment and life skills.
Phil, who has been running supper clubs around the area for the last ten years, hopes to eventually set up a community kitchen which will produce healthy ready meals for delivery.
He said: “People don’t necessarily believe they are eating badly, because there just isn’t an interest in teaching nutrition and cookery in schools.
“There is nothing like working in a kitchen for developing a sense of team spirit.
“If you don’t work together, then it just becomes anarchy and chaos.”
Phil is now carrying out a feasibility study, which he hopes will help him secure a further £300,000 next year to fund the kitchen.
A free lunch is being held at the village hall on Wednesday, May 8, at 12.30pm where people will be invited to share their views on the project. Places are limited. Call Phil Nadin on 01823-332222 to book.
