EXMOOR House was evacuated yesterday (June 12) after an unexploded Second World War bomb was found at the national park.

Staff from the National Park Authority alerted the police and a bomb disposal unit arrived at the offices in Dulverton just after 3pm.

External realtions manager at the park Clare O’Connor said: “Somebody brought it in, not knowing what it was, saying they had found this interesting looking object and archaeologist Rob Wilson North realised it could be an ordnance from the Second World War, because funnily enough we are doing a project on the war at the moment.”

As a precaution staff decided to evacuate the 30 people that were in the building at the time before police safely disposed of the bomb.

Clare added: “If people do find something suspicious that they think might be a Second World War ordnance they should not necessarily pick it up, and if they are genuinely worried then they should contact the police.”
