A BARN at a farm near Wellington has been completely destroyed by a large blaze which took firefighters around ten hours to put out last night (August 24).

Two fire engines from Wellington and a water carrier from Bridgwater attended the incident at Catsbeer Farm, West Buckland, at around 8.20pm.

Crews worked throughout the night to put out the fire which had engulfed the 15 metre by 10 metre barn containing 50 tonnes of straw.

Two more fire engines from Wiveliscombe and Taunton were called to help and support appliances from Street and Taunton also attended.

All crews tackled the fire using three main jets and water from the water carrier. The incident was then scaled down to two fire crews overnight and one remained at the scene after 5.30am.
