Helicopter landings highlight of Somerset Military Tattoo show

SPECTACULAR helicopter landings will be among the attractions at the first Somerset Military Tattoo this month.
Organisers of the show – which being held at Taunton Racecourse on September 14 – have confirmed that the Army Air Corps will land its Wildcat helicopter in the venue while the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance will also visit, emergencies permitting.
Up to 10,000 visitors are expected to pack into the venue for the first staging of the showcase event, which will run from 11am to 5.30pm.
The event will raise money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which provides financial assistance to all soldiers and their families.
Nigel Muers-Raby of event sponsors Pardoes Solicitors, said: “The excitement is building to what is a truly amazing line-up of entertainment for all the family to enjoy.
“It will be a celebration of the Armed Forces and Public Services in Somerset and will we hope raise a significant amount for such a great cause.”
Attractions confirmed include the Military Wives Choir, Avon and Somerset Police’s horse and dog display team, a ‘Naval gun run’, falconry shows, the Pipes and Drums of the Wessex Highlanders and the Somerset Army Cadet Force Silver Bugles and the RAFA band.
The event is being supported by the Bridgwater Mercury and sponsored by Pardoes, Augusta Westland, Mercedes Benz South West and Higher Sites.
Tickets are priced £6 for adults in advance, or £8 on the day. Children aged 12 and under go free and there will be free car parking available.
