Taunton Deane communities urged to back Post Office
8:30am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
CIVIC leaders in Taunton Deane are encouraging communities to get behind their Post Office by working with them to win £10,000.
The Government has launched a competition with Post Offices Ltd to find schemes that show how PO branches can support their community.
There is £200,000 for 20 successful applicants to share if they satisfy the judges with their ideas on how Post Office branches can provide more for the area they serve.
Ideas could include setting up a hub or meeting space for community groups, providing display space for local producers or partnering with a local charity to provide space, notice boards or a meeting room.
The council has its own scheme to help rural retailers – including Post Offices – with up to £2,000 available for successful applicants.
Details on how to apply are available from economic development lead Hattie Winter – email h.winter@tauntondeane .gov.uk.
