Town must embrace change, says Taunton Town Centre Company
11:00am Tuesday 17th September 2013 in News
It is among ideas being put to a meeting called by Taunton Town Centre Company at the Castle Hotel at 5.45pm today when all local businesses are invited.
The organisation will lay out fresh plans to support businesses over the next five years.
Its ‘Plan for Taunton’ records the views of businesses and details changes needed to prevent the county town slipping behind its competitors in the region.
As well as the suggestion of the new centre, which could attract investment “from the right developer”, delegates will be asked if more big ticket events similar to the successful Elton John and Jools Holland concerts could be organised.
The draft plans says: “As a county town we must embrace the change or die.
“The options are to either attract new business, jobs, housing and investment or to become a provincial backwater and commuter town serving those creating wealth in the sub-region.
“Five years from now, the look and feel of the county town will be very different.
“It is up to the council and businesses to realise the vision which we all want for Taunton.”
