HUNDREDS of people were giving it some welly at the weekend...
Record numbers turned out at Court Fields School for the World Wellington Boot Throwing Championships on Saturday (September 14), with organisers hailing it the best yet.
Sue White said: “This year was the best yet with approximately 32 stalls filling the field, a fantastic turnout of well over 2,000 people, record entries of 250 individual entries and ten teams.
“Thankfully the weather was good to us once again and everyone appeared to have a really good time and are looking forward to next year’s event already.”
For the second year running Somerset went head-to-head with their counterparts from Welbury, Yorkshire, with the hosts levelling it up 1-1.
John O Dea, who previously won the Portwest All Ireland competition, took part in the Wellington competition, setting a new record in the male category.
Sue added: “I would like to thank all our sponsors and all the businesses who so kindly gave us raffle prizes for which there are too many to name individually.
“Finally, not forgetting the support and assistance of the Welly Boot committee, family and friends; without whose help the event would not have been possible.”
Next year’s event has been planned for Saturday, September 13.
