PEOPLE can head to the polls tomorrow (September 26) to vote for the newest member of Langport Town Council.
The two candidates are Garry Edmunds and Stephen Jenkinson, who both live in the town.
Builder Garry, of The Avenue, has spent the last 50 years working and living in the Langport area.
Garry, who is married with two daughters, said: “I feel that I know Langport very well and want to take part in helping to run the town council in an efficient and cost effective manner.
“I am not driven by political opinions but I do care what happens in Langport and to the people living here.
Teacher Stephen, of Newtown, lives with his wife and teenage sons.
He has served as a governor at Huish Episcopi Primary School and also run the Newtown Says No campaign against plans for 36 homes off of Newtown Road.
He said: “Our town faces a complex set of challenges – these problems affect all of us – all of us need to use the town’s services and facilities so it is in our interest to have a successful thriving town with real community spirit and a sustainable future.
“If elected, I will try to represent the electors’ interests fairly. I am someone with enthusiasm, integrity, a good sense of humour and a realistic view of the world.”
The by-election is being held after Jennifer McDonald stepped down in July.
It takes place at the Ridgway Hall from 7am until 10pm.
