Jamie Fortune remembered at Taunton North Youth Club
7:00pm Monday 30th September 2013 in News
A YOUTH club was officially opened at a charity fun day in memory of a popular teenager killed in a motorbike crash this summer.
Jamie Fortnue’s parents, John and Sonia, attended the event at Taunton North Youth Club on Saturday.
Jamie, who lived locally, died when his bike collided with a car in Kingston Road in July.
The facility, sited at the former Rowbarton Boys’ Club, on Selworthy Road, was officially opened by The Wurzels band member Tommy Banner and Taunton Deane MP Jeremy Browne.
It was renamed the Terry Murphy Hall, in tribute to a former councillor who has worked tirelessly to ensure the project got off the ground.
Chairman Neil Rogers said: “Around 500 seven to 16-year-olds use the hall, with youth clubs twice a week, boxing, dancing, football and other activities.
“We’re very grateful to Terry for all the time, work and effort he’s put into getting things off the ground.”
Mr Rogers also thanked the hard-working volunteers who helped get the event running.
