Man in court over Wellington Waitrose fire
Robert Pitman, 24, of High Street, Wellington, appeared at Taunton Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing today (October 17).
Mr Pitman denied causing the blaze on Sunday, July 21 and was remanded in custody. He had already previously denied arson at magistrates' court.
Flames engulfed the upmarket store in the early hours of the morning, forcing it to close for just over three weeks.
Staff were re-located to other branches including Exeter, Crewkerne and Weston.
It was re-opened in mid-August by the firefighters that helped to save it and branch manager Chris Reynard handed over a cheque for £5,000 to the Fire Fighters Charity during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
A trial is expected to be heard in January 2014.
