A FOOTBALLER has admitted causing the death of a friend in a collision on the M5 motorway near Wellington.
Tom Pilling, 25, of Tiverton, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death by careless driving at Taunton Crown Court yesterday (November 11).
Pilling also pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death while driving without insurance.
Daniel Gunn, 24, died in the collision, which happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 25 (Taunton) and 26 (Wellington) at around 6.15am on Saturday, March 9.
The parents of Daniel, a talented footballer in Tiverton, described their son as 'wonderful' and 'everybody’s true friend' following the incident.
Another man, Tom Moyes, was also left in a critical condition after the crash and taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.
All three men played for youth football team Twyford Spartans in Tiverton.
Pilling, dressed in a grey suit, was released on bail and will be sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on December 6.
