A MAN was sexually assaulted by a gang in a late-night attack in Taunton.
The incident happened in Staplegrove in the early hours of Sunday morning when the victim, in his 20s, was approached by a group of around five men, all wearing dark clothes.
It happened on a pathway near rugby pitches between Greenway Road and Turner Road.
DI Becky Jarvis, of Taunton CID, said: "This is an extremely unusual incident and we have launched a full investigation into the circumstances.
"After this incident the victim was taken to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Bristol where he was looked after by trained professionals and was given access to help and support.
"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Greenway Road between midnight and 2am on Sunday, whether travelling by car or on foot, to come forward, as they may have information which is important to our inquiry.
"I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of men in the local area around the time of the incident."
If you can help, call Taunton CID on 101.
