THERE’S more drama to be had next year when a television crew plans to return to film in Minehead.

The BBC team from ‘Casualty’ was so impressed with the West Somerset Railway and local hospitality that they’re already planning their return trip.

The team, featuring well-known character ‘Big Mac’ spent a day filming at the Seaward Way Level Crossing in Minehead on November 26.

They will be back in spring 2014 to film a longer sequence.

The BBC 1 show, aired on Saturday nights, has been running for 27 years and until 2012, was filmed in Bristol.

Hundreds of residents turned up throughout the day to watch the filming and get a glimpse of some of the stars.

According to the BBC, the scenes they filmed for will be aired next April however they were unable to provide an actual date.

There were some complaints from residents and motorists after the road along Seaward Way was closed from 8am until 5pm.

Residents have been assured that no road closures are planned for the next session of filming.

West Somerset Railway general manager Paul Conibeare said: “When they return, they will be filming a longer on-screen sequence than that which was made on November 26.

“Three coaches are being brought into the line to stage a rail accident and interior sequences.

“Beyond that, we don’t know any more, not having seen the script, but getting such quick return business is a clear tribute both to WSR and the local hospitality sector.

“Hopefully word about the welcome and the beauties of the area will reach the attention of other broadcasters and we will see more production teams in West Somerset and Taunton Deane at work and assisting the local economy."
