WATCHET Children’s Festival has brought laughter and smiles to families for over ten years, but now it is looking for fresh faces and ideas.

It was set up by Izzy Sylvester to give Watchet youngsters experiences children in rural communities often miss out on at an affordable price.

Izzy said: “The community spirit of Watchet is just amazing.

“I moved here in 2001 and I am always overwhelmed by all the support and volunteers who help out especially on the day.”

When Izzy started the festival, it was done on a budget, but now it costs up to £8,000 a year.

Izzy and Rachel Irven, one of the organisers, want new people to come forward and help if they can.

Rachel said: “This is an event for the whole family. “We’ve always focused on doing things for the young children but there was the worry that next year’s festival wouldn’t go ahead.

“What we’d like are younger organisers to come forward, even teenagers, if they can help.

“The group of volunteers we have already are amazing, thank you to them and to those who have since volunteered their help.

“The problem is, we’re all of a certain age and as the festival is aimed at families, we’d really love to hear from them and younger people.

“We want to keep ideas fresh so, if anyone has any, then let us know.”

Rachel and Izzy are also looking for fundraisers to come up with new ideas and a secretary who could attend regular meetings.

Izzy added: “I’ve been to festivals like Glastonbury and other children’s festivals in the country that can be quite expensive.

“We’ve had some amazing performers, even people who have been on shows like Britain’s Got Talent, and we’re always looking for exciting new performers and things for the children to do.”
