SHOPPERS in Minehead may get more than they bargained for when they go shopping on the town’s Parade this Saturday (January 18).

Fitness instructors from West Somerset Sports and Leisure Centre, in Minehead, will be on hand at Toucan Wholefoods Shop and Cafe to give interested shoppers a free health assessment.

Included will be BMI, body fat and blood pressure testing.

Local residents will also have the chance to take part in a special competition to win free Premier membership for one month with 1610 which includes unlimited access to the gym, exercise classes and racquet sports.

To qualify entry to the competition, a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support, 1610’s charity of the year should be made.

Fitness Instructor, Craig Goodchild, from West Somerset Sports and Leisure Centre said now was the best time to focus on New Year health and fitness resolutions.

He said: “We are all thinking about making the best of ourselves at this time of year, but many people put off going to the gym or are afraid to get a health check done so we thought we would bring some healthy inspiration to the heart of the local community.

“Our instructors will be available to encourage local people to take up an active lifestyle with advice on exercise and nutrition as well as free health testing.

“The competition is a special one off event but will hopefully inspire local residents to make 2014 their healthiest and best year yet.”
