WHEN Jack Wood was born 15 weeks premature and weighing less than 2lb he was given just 30% chance of survival.

Now, ten years on, the Wellesley Park Primary School pupil is certainly walking tall.

Jack, accompanied by his mother Joy Hall and aunty Rachel Andrews, will hike ten miles from his home near Milverton to Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital on Sunday.

He will be met by matron Susan Spooner who looked after Jack as a baby.

Joy said: “The special care baby unit at Musgrove did an amazing job and the care given and attention to detail was outstanding. Needless to say, Jack pulled through and is now a fully healthy, fully functioning young lad.

“To mark his tenth birthday he would like to give back to those who saved his life so they can continue to help little babies like him.”

Jack had eight blood transfusions and loads of life-saving treatment while in care.

He is now a keen footballer for Wellington Wolves under-10s and is hoping to raise £750 for the unit which looked after him.
