A SCUBA diver from Bishop’s Hull donned his wetsuit and flippers over the weekend to show the extent of the flooding problems on the Somerset Levels.

Dave, 49, is part of Street Sub Aqua Club and took his diving gear to Burrowbridge where some of the fields are up to five feet underwater.

He works for a recycling firm who use the road through Burrowbridge for their deliveries but have had to divert their lorries down the motorway instead.

He said: “I’ve done some crazy scuba diving in my time but this must top it all.

“The point of the exercise was to make people aware of how deep the water is there – there was very low visibility and I was in the water for around 20 minutes.

“I’ve never dived in a field before and I’ll probably never do it again. It was good fun; cold, but good fun.”
