FIFTY years ago in March, one of Britain’s most iconic bands visited West Somerset to carry out filming for a feature film.

Now the Friends of Crowcombe Station are organising a special showing of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ starring The Beatles, to mark the anniversary.

On a glorious spring day in March 1964, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr visited what was then the Minehead branch line of British Railways.

In part of the film, Ringo is seen riding a bicycle on the platform which was then known as Crowcombe.

Today, it thrives as part of the West Somerset Railway with the Friends working hard on maintaining and enhancing the facilities.

The film will be shown at Crowcombe Village Hall on March 7.

There will also be a showing of a short film, made at the station in 2013 by students from the Film School at Ealing Studios.

There is a limit of 100 seats and tickets costing £5 are now on sale, which include a glass of wine or a soft drink.

Start time for the film will be 7.30pm. Tickets can be obtained by sending a cheque payable to FoCHS to Easter Cottage, West Bagborough, Taunton, TA4 3EF.
