RENOWNED geologist and TV presenter Professor Iain Stewart is giving a free lecture at Taunton School tomorrow (February 5).

He will be the guest of the school’s John Rae Society and geology department and he will give a talk entitled ‘Meet the frackers: a geological perspective on UK shale gas’ at 7pm.

Prof Stewart, professor of geoscience communication at Plymouth University, has presented several major TV series for the BBC, including Earth: The Power of the Planet, How To Grow A Planet and Rise of the Continents.

He is currently president of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, an honorary president of the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers and a patron of the Scottish Geodiversity Forum.

In 2013 he was awarded the American Geophysical Union’s Athelstan Spilhaus Award for conveying to the general public the excitement, significance, and beauty of the Earth and space sciences.
