A MINEHEAD couple have added another role to the long list of things they already do for their local community.

Pat and Barry Smith, who live in Silvermead in Minehead, have joined Magna West Somerset's tenants' panel so they can make sure that residents' voices are heard and that plans reflect what residents want.

Barry said: “We may be retired, but there is no way we could put our feet up.

“We want to make a difference and help others, we spent many years running convenience stores all over the country and we still want to keep active now.

“As members of the panel, we take an active part in deciding what Magna should be doing and looking at how it can improve.”

Pat and Barry already keep busy with the social club at Silvermead extra care housing scheme which holds a weekly coffee morning and trips out for local residents.

Pat added: “We're really happy living in Minehead and helping plan social events for all those who live near us.

“We've always enjoyed being at the centre of the community.

“All the money raised from our coffee mornings goes towards trips for the residents and other functions such as fish and chips or race nights.

“We even organised a meal out at the end of last year and plan to do more this year

. “We do have lots of help from our scheme manger and other residents, we couldn't do this without them.”

Neil Bliss, community involvement officer said: “All our panel members do a fantastic job for other tenants, Pat and Barry are a great addition to an already strong team.”
