Plymouth Police have launched a week of action to target offenders and engage with the public in the city, waterfront and Stonehouse neighbourhoods.

Neighbourhood teams are running a series of operations under the umbrella name of Operation Vary from today until February 16.

They will cover everything from antisocial behaviour, speeding, drug dealing, shoplifting, car crime and alcohol-related violence, as well as offering crime prevention advice and support.

The week of action has been planned by neighbourhood teams alongside partner agencies.

Sergeant Paul Laity, who is organising the week with fellow neighbourhood team leader Sergeant Vicky Howell, said: “Overall crime is falling and we intend to keep it that way for as long as possible.

“We will be carrying out intelligence-led hi-visibility patrols in these areas and making the best use of specialist resources to address our current policing priorities.

“Officers often get called to deal with lower level offences such as antisocial driving but the effect these have on the community is great and shouldn’t be underestimated. Operation Alloy will see officers on the ground educating all road users and taking enforcement action where necessary.

“As part of Operation Gibbon officers will be making visits to licensed premises ensuring people are safe on their night out and that premises are managed well. Alcohol-related disorder is a concern and the team consistently educate users of the night time economy about how to stay safe and avoid becoming a victim of crime.

“Operation Vocal will also feature during the week, where we work with our partners such as housing and the council. We will be knocking on doors to see if we can assist with any policing or community concerns people have in the area.

“There will be a number of street surgery drop-in sessions advertised where people can meet us to gain valuable crime prevention advice and tell us what matters to them.”
