FUNDRAISING for local people has got off to a flying start this year thanks to Magna’s Tenants’ Panel.
The panel holds a raffle at each of its monthly meetings to raise money for people in need in West Somerset.
The money raised goes into a fund to help people with the cost of things such as a Lifeline system or meals on wheels.
Norma Stevens, tenant panel chair, said: “We think it’s really important to raise money to help people who can’t manage on their own, not just Magna residents.
“We each bring in a prize and raise around £25 at each meeting. “We also raise money at various events throughout the year.
“At the moment we’re helping five people to have a Lifeline who couldn’t otherwise afford it.”
Nigel Gates, of Carhampton, has a health condition which makes him prone to falling, and he is one of the people who has benefited from the scheme.
He said: “I have a young daughter and I didn’t want her to have the worry of trying to call the emergency services if I fell.
“Having a Lifeline system gives us both peace of mind. “I’m grateful to Magna’s Tenants Panel for helping me.”
