AVON and Somerset Police has said: "There was a collision between a car and a van at around 11.15am.

"The collision was on the A358 at Bishops Lydeard ad the junction with Station Road.

"The road was blocked as a result of the collision and a diversion is in place via Cotford St Luke.

"Both vehicles are currently being recovered. Two people are being taken to hospital although their injuries are not considered life threatening or life changing.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact police on 101."

SOUTH Western Ambulance Service has confirmed that a woman in her 40s and a man in his 70s were both taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Both are suffering from lower back pain.

FIREFIGHTERS say they have had to cut two people out of a car following the crash.

Pictures of the scene sent to the County Gazette show a silver BMW and an ASDA delivery van, which appear to be involved.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said they attended the scene around an hour ago.

They added: "Fire crews confirmed a road traffic collision involving one light commercial van and on car. 

"Two persons were trapped, one person in each vehicle.  Fire crews stabilised the vehicles and extricated both casualties using hydraulic cutting equipment.  Both casualties were conveyed to hospital by ambulance."

Fire crews made both vehicles safe and left the incident in the hands of police and ambulance.
