A CHILD aged just 11 was arrested by officers from Avon and Somerset Police in connection with a post on social media – the County Gazette can reveal.

Figures obtained following a Freedom of Information Act request show there were 92 arrests in Avon and Somerset relating to posts on social media over the past five years - most were posts for judged threatening or obscene.

Eighteen of those arrested were under 18; the youngest was a child of 11, while a 12-year-old and two 13-year-olds were also arrested.

All but 11 of the 92 incidents related to messages or posts on Facebook.
