A FACILITY which is “vital to the community of Taunton” has been opened.

Taunton Post Office moved 75 meters from its home in North Street to The County Stores where the doors were opened.

Taunton Deane MP Jeremy Browne cut the ribbon and said: “I welcomed the news that the post office was to move to modern premises.

“It is vital to the community of Taunton and I’m sure the improved office, and longer opening hours, will be warmly welcomed.

The office has been created at the back of the ground floor, which has undergone a £250,000 refurbishment.

County Stores director James Duder will now take on the role of subpostmaster and the facility will open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Whilst no one could possibly argue with the statement that the "County Stores post office is 'vital' to Taunton."

This premise only represents part of the picture, and only part of the overall process.

The vital 'County Stores post office,' is to the post office service users; what a bus replacement service is to railway travellers.

They both represent a woefully inadequate substitute, that does not match up to the real thing; and as such, they both represent another step backwards for the community.

They also both graphically illustrate the 'logical' consequence of a capitalist system that puts the corporate profits of the 1%, before the collective needs of the 99%!

Mind you, however; even a bus replacement service would have been most welcomed by the thousands of increasingly desperate and angry population, living in the flood-affected parts of Somerset, during the past couple of months!

As it appears that even the replacement buses have in turn, been replaced by a somewhat skeletal, replacement gondola service!

... that's capitalism!
