SUPPORTERS of St Margaret’s Hospice are being asked to put their best feet forward in the ninth Great Somerset Walk.

Hikers can choose to start at one of the nine registration points and design their own route in the fundraising event on Sunday, May 18 – and you can even take your dog with you.

People are being asked to sign up with a team of friends, family or workmates in a bid to beat last year’s sponsorship total of £25,000.

Brooke Brownlow, events fundraiser for Bishop’s Hull-based St Margaret’s, said: “The Great Somerset Walk is Somerset’s longest organised walk which takes hikers through some of the most scenic landscapes in the heart of the county.

“The walk follows a combination of foot and bridle paths and gives you the chance to design your own route.

“You can walk a shorter 3.4-mile section or challenge yourself with a longer hike – the choice is yours.”

Entry is £5 for adults and free for under-16s accompanied by an adult - to register on the walk, go to www.greatsomersetwalk.co.uk or call 0845-3459671.

Details of the nine checkpoints and starting times can be viewed on the website.

Brooke added: “Every pound you raise helps us to carry on our excellent specialist palliative care to patients and their families across Somerset and its borders.”

*St Margaret’s is the fourth largest hospice in the UK and it needs to raise £10million a year to fund its services – see next week’s County Gazette to find out how you can help.
