AN EXMOOR farmer and businessman is celebrating after receiving an award at the House of Lords.

Richard Webber, who farms at Wheddon Cross, was presented with an Associateship of the Royal Agricultural Societies by Baroness Byford.

It was in recognition of ‘his contribution to the practise and deployment of agriculture.

Mr Webber said: “It was nice to be recognised for trying to help the industry.

“There are probably more worthy people than myself to get the award but it means I’m now part of a club of high profile, forward-thinking people, which is nice to be a part of.”

He founded his business, Shearwell Data, in 1990.

It supplies livestock farmers around the world with a range of goods to aid identification of cattle and sheep from ear tags to electronic identification systems.
