THE generosity of the Taunton area has been praised by the MP during a visit to a charity that supplies food to vulnerable people.
Taunton Deane MP Jeremy Browne has visited Taunton Foodbank on Belvedere Trading Estate to hear about volunteers’ efforts to assist others in the community.
Mr Browne said: “Taunton Deane residents give very generously to Foodbanks when there are collections outside local supermarkets.
“Many people prefer to donate food rather than money because they know their support will not be wasted on items like high administrative costs.
“The food is then neatly stored and divided into packs to be given to people who need it.
“Foodbanks can make an important contribution to helping people who need transitional assistance to get them through a difficult period.”
Taunton Foodbank is setting up at least four new distribution centres in the area after winning a £3,000 Lloyds Bank Community Fund award.
