CROSS country runners from Danesfield Middle School, Williton have again acquitted themselves, taking top slots in races that included clubs from South and Mid Wales, Wiltshire, Avon and Bristol.

Danesfield's under 13 boys took second place for Somerset behind Wells City Harriers in the Somerset Cross Country County Championships, at Blaise Castle, Bristol.

Top runners Danesfield runner Eben Harding came in sixth for Somerset and 39th overall.

Connor Murphy races home in seventh place for Somerset and 41st overall, and Alex Kilworth eighth for Somerset and 42nd overall.

George Searle, Tyler Butler, Kieran Wilson, Freddie Wilson, Tayler Brooke and Josh Searle also ran well for the Danesfield team.

Other excellent performances included those from Rachel Langbein sixth Somerset runner and 32nd overall, just behind Keiley MacDonald, running a year young in 31st place.

Superb running from Sophie Rogers placed her first for Somerset in the Novice Girls and 12th overall with Yasmin Bailey coming second for Somerset and 17th overall.

Headteacher, Ian Bradbury, said "the fact that a school of our size can compete successfully against nationally recognised clubs such as Cardiff and Bristol shows the strength in depth that the school has.

"This shows what high expectations and determination can achieve."
