TAUNTON Athletics Club is seeking more help as it bids to double its membership over the next five years.

The club, which already has 280 members, has received support from a number of firms as it creates its first club house.

Chairman Mike Rogers said: “The club wants to continue to move forward and has ambitious plans to double its membership over the next five years.

“As well as covering all age ranges, we provide a safe environment with over 20 trained coaches.

“But to meet these targets the club needs further support and any contribution, financial or volunteering or coaching, would be most welcome.”

The club has already received £5,000 from packaging firm RH Fibreboard Containers, of Chelston Business Park, Wellington, and £3,000 from Rumwell-based independent financial advisers, Vision South West.

Taunton-based chartered accountants Lentells have pledged £1,500 over the next three years to boost the clubhouse project while solicitors Ashfords have donated their legal services for free.

Robert Ruffell-Hazell, managing director of RH Fibreboard Containers, a family-run corrugated packaging firm, which supplies businesses throughout the South West, said: “The firm is delighted to support such a worthwhile cause.”

The clubhouse is being built next to the athletics track behind The Castle School.
