CARERS are being given the chance to influence the way services are provided in Somerset.

Key speakers from the care sector will be attending the first Compass Carers Conference on May 1 and anyone interested in the sector is invited to attend.

The event, from 10am to 4pm, will feature presentations from Richard Pitman, chief executive of Taunton-based Compass Carers, Clare Steel, Somerset County Council’s lead commissioner for adults and health, John Goodwin, also of the council, and Neil Richards, chair of the Carers Partnership Board.

There will also be a personal story given by a carer.

Presentations will be followed by workshops to allow carers to have their say on the Somerset Carers Strategy being re-written by the county council.

A Compass spokesman said: “This will be your chance to influence the development of services for carers in Somerset.”

The afternoon will feature workshops on subjects including current service provision, problems, successes, transport and digital access to services.

Booking for the event, at Canalside Conference Venue, Marsh Lane, Huntworth, Bridgwater, is essential by phoning Kevin Tarr on 01823-255911 or emailing kevin@compassdisability.org.uk

The County Gazette is doing its bit to help people pick their way through the complex world of caring with the launch of a monthly section next week – Care Matters – in conjunction with law firm Ashfords.

Each month, experts from Ashfords will tackle a different topic to help you through this confusing field.
