ARMY cadets from Taunton have been put to the test in a tough military competition sponsored by the Royal Corps of Signals at Blandford Garrison, in Dorset.

The annual National Cadet Signals Competition, Exercise Rolling Thunder, cadets from Army Cadet Force and the Combined Cadet Force the chance prove themselves in disciplines such as signalling, fitness and shooting.

The five cadets from Priorswood Platoon – Cadet Serjeant Major Wesley Williams, Cpl Owen Allsopp, Lance Cpl Elliott Porter, Lance Cpl Tyler Griffiths, and Lance Cpl Georgina Hudson – came second overall against teams from across the UK.

Team Manager and Priorswood Platoon Commander Glyn Lancey said: “Coming second place overall and being the best team in the South-West is the county’s best ever result. It is excellent.”

The platoon is currently located at the former St Augustine of Canterbury School and meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9.30pm.
