THE daughter of a couple killed in one of the UK’s worst motorway accidents hopes she will be able to get on with her life after an inquest which starts today (March 31).

The hearing at Taunton’s Shire Hall into the deaths of seven people in the M5 crash at Taunton on November 4, 2011, is set to take two weeks.

Tonia White, who lives in the town, will attend the court for part of the hearing, which will establish how her parents, Tony and Pamela Adams, 73 and 70, of Newport, died.

Mrs White said: “The nightmare never really goes away, but I’ve learned to live with it.

“Maybe we’ll find out more about what happened, and when the inquest’s over we’ll hopefully have some more closure.

“Then we’ll be able to start to move on, and maybe be able to take things easier and relax after a very difficult couple of years.”

West Somerset Coroner Michel Rose will also conduct the hearing into the deaths of lorry drivers Terry Brice, 55, of Bristol, and Kye Thomas, 38, of Gunnislake, Cornwall, Michael Bartin, 67, and his daughter, Maggie, 23, of Berkshire, and gas supply worker Malcolm Beacham, of Woolavington, near Bridgwater.

Somerset County Gazette: Cars are removed from the scene of the multiple vehicle crash on the M5 motorway close to Taunton

They all died in the 37-vehicle pile-up in which 51 people were also injured travelling northwards just past junction 25.

Police investigations centred on whether smoke from a fireworks display at nearby Taunton Rugby Club led to reduced visibility, though a trial against the event organiser, Geoffrey Counsell, later collapsed.

Mrs White has started an on-line petition to change the law governing fireworks displays.
