Plans in place for Wellington Street Fair

MORE than 30 stalls have already signed up for this year’s Wellington Street Fair.

The organisers of the event, which helps to raise cash for the town’s carnival, announced this week that Taunton Deane Council’s highways team granted permission to close High Street and South Street on Sunday, June 1.

Organiser Dave Rylatt, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “This time last year we only had two stalls booked.

“While we’d like to apologise in advance for any inconveniences experienced due to the road closures instigated to run the event, last year’s proved a massive success, mainly due to stallholders offering such a variety of wares, and to the many groups, organisations, bands and performers who gave fantastic entertainment for free.

“It’s advised that any prospective stallholders interested in taking part in the event express an interest as soon as possible as it’s very likely that spaces this year will be sold out very soon.”

Wellington Majorettes will be opening the event, and a full timetable will be featured in the County Gazette and at somersetcountygazette.co.uk closer to the time.
