FENCERS from Wellington School showed off their handy work as they triumphed in a national competition.
Jade Clarke, GB under-17 champion, scooped gold in the girls’ senior foil and epee at the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships at Crystal Palace.
She was ably supported by teammate Jessica Gundry who took silver in the foil and came fifth in the epee.
Jade also came sixth in sabre on the third day of the tournament and for her overall performance she was awarded an honorary Master at Armes sword.
Nina Savage, 13, finished sixth out of 80 in the junior girls’ mount-haes under-14 foil class.
George Felletar, fencing master at Wellington School, said: “The championship is by far the largest fencing competition in the country, and is probably the largest youth fencing event in the whole of Europe.
“These girls train so hard and are utterly dedicated to their sport – they really deserve this triumph.
“I am delighted that they have done so supremely well.”
