WHEN Jo Bailey organised a fundraising ball in aid of charity, there was one guest she didn't bank on turning up.

But sister-in-law Amelia Old had different ideas when she jetted in from America for the glamorous do at the County Ground in Taunton.

In fact, when Amelia turned up at Jo's Bishops Lydeard home it was the first time the pair had ever met in person... and it was an emotional affair.

Jo, 35, said: “It was amazing; I was in complete shock. I'd just been out on a long run and was planning on making some dinner when I saw her walking up the drive.

“I thought 'who the hell is that?' and then I realised. I had no idea at all.”

Amelia and her husband, Jo's brother Tim, hatched a plan to surprise Jo days before the ball, which was organised to raise funds for children suffering from cancer.

Jo said: “Amelia married Tim a year ago in USA but unfortunately the family weren't able to make it over to the wedding, so when Amelia turned up at my front door as a surprise I did have the shock of my life.

“It was just a shame we only had four days to get to know each other but we cramped lots in. Very upsetting to then have to say goodbye, but we are making plans already to visit.”

Jo was the only sibling of Amelia's husband Tim that she had not met and after a long flight, she finally made it to Lydeard.

“It was so difficult to not let this secret get out,” said Amelia.

“My husband was already on business in the UK and there was so much to do in preparation of this trip, and all in secret.”

The moment was captured on camera as a keepsake.

Amelia added: “It was important that I had this moment on video so that I could share it with my husband and of course my friends and family back home.

“As I walked up her driveway, I could see her looking at me through the window.

“When she opened the door after my knock, she just put her head to the side in a bit of shock and confusion.

“I think she knew it was me but was having a hard time believing it.”

Jo's fundraising will continue when she runs the London Marathon on Sunday, April 13. To donate, visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/jobailey1
