TOMORROW: 'Wondrous Things' to reopen Taunton's Brewhouse
GANG Show lovers and theatre supporters will already be gearing up to see the Brewhouse reopen in all its glory tomorrow (Tuesday April 8).
And there'll also be visual art delights to greet punters: art exhibition, 'Wondrous Things'.
Taking its title from a famous quote by the man who discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamun, the exhibition has been curated by Wiveliscombe artist Annie Phillips.
In it, emerging artists stand alongside some of Somerset's best-established creatives.
When archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922, Lord Caernarvon asked, “Can you see anything?”
Carter replied: “Yes – Wondrous Things!”
Reflecting on the inaugural show, Annie said: “It sums up my aspirations for the delights that lie in store for the people who eagerly anticipate the long awaited re-opening of The Brewhouse.
"The overwhelming response of the artists who submitted their works on short notice for this event is humbling.
"The quality and diversity of the art sets a standard and show of commitment to all those people waiting in the wings to make this venture a success.”
The artists are: John Alder, Michael Fairfax, Sara Fairfax, Tilly Willis, Richard Willis, RA Toni Davey, Andrew Davey, Leo Davey, Rebecca Birtwhistle, Simon Healy, Richard Balman, David Leyland, Ben Graham, Beatrice Hammond, Kerry Molfesis, Dean Aggett, Annie Jeffs, and Sam Jeffs.
