A NEW series of artworks featuring Watchet past and present will be on display at the town’s Contains Art Gallery on East Quay from today.

The exhibition, ‘Out of the Blue’, by Somerset painter and printmaker Jenny Graham, is the first in a series of shows that are being supported by the Arts Council England at Contains Art.

The works, which are created through an inventive use of the historic ‘blueprinting’ process, combine photographs of the town and its Marina, with textual imagery, which are transformed through a process called ‘cyanotyping’ to create ‘blueprints’.

Jenny said: “Watchet has such a fascinating history and is so lucky to have the museum to record and safeguard its past.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed discovering the detail and intricacies of its past and present – including of its past and present – including some fabulous archival material –and then finding a new way to reveal this historical beauty through my work.

“It has been a new departure for me to work with cyanotypes in this way, and I hope Watchet will enjoy the results as much as I have enjoyed creating them.

“My thanks to both the Marina and the museum for their generous contributions to the exhibiton.”

The exhibition will run from April 12 to April 21 and is open to the public from 10am-4pm Wednesdays-Sundays and bank holidays Monday.
