ARMED police surrounded a flat in Wellington during an early-morning raid.

Officers attended a property in Priory just after 7.30am on Tuesday (April 15) after receiving reports of a wanted man being inside, police said.

A 29-year-old man from Minehead was arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle and a 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of being allowed to be carried in a stolen vehicle.

A statement released by Avon and Somerset Police said: “At around 7.30am on Tuesday we became aware that a man wanted in connection with the theft of a vehicle was in a property in Priory.

“Armed officers contained the building and he came out of the building and was subsequently arrested along with a woman who was also inside.”

The man remains in custody while the woman has been released with no further action being taken.
