A STUDENT was left feeling sky high over the Easter break after winning a place on a coveted course for budding pilots.
James McDermott, who is in the sixth form at Wellington School, was one of ten in the UK selected to attend the Special Flying Award course at RNAS Yeovilton.
The course included the opportunity for James, aged 16, to chalk up four hours’ flying in a Grob Tutor 115 aircraft with a former Fleet Air Arm pilot.
It also allowed him to tour the Wildcat Lynx Squadron and Sea King Squadron as well as the under-water escape trainer, which all Fleet Air Arm personnel experience on a regular basis.
James is part of Wellington School’s Combined Cadet Force RAF section.
