POLICE in Taunton say they will review their night time response during the football World Cup, with the relaxation of licensing laws enabling pubs and bars to stay open late, to coincide with tournament kick-off times.
The Home Office confirmed in March that pubs and bars would be allowed to stay open until 1am when England fixtures kick off at 8pm or later, following a two week public consultation.
England's opening game of the tournament against Italy kicks off at 11pm on June 14, while their second, against Uruguay five days later, is an 8pm kick-off.
Inspector Bob Muckett of Avon and Somerset Police said: “We constantly review our responses to these sorts of things and we will be reviewing things as the tournament gets closer, as the area's people would expect us to.”
