PEOPLE are being asked to help transform a 200-year-old building in the centre of Taunton into a community asset.

The Quaker Meeting House in Bath Place is being gutted and reconfigured to make it fit for the 21st Century.

Funding of £500,000 has already been secured for the project and now people are being asked to ‘buy a brick’ to raise the remaining £250,000 needed.

A spokesman said: “There has been a Quaker Meeting House on the site in Bath Place since 1693.

“The present building was commissioned in 1816, and has undergone many changes.

“Now Quakers want to see it serve the community as a centre for smaller community groups for whom large church halls are unsuitable or too expensive.”

Supporters are asked to donate £5 or £10 towards the brick appeal – call Kathy Gollin on 01823-601229 or visit www.tauntonquakers.weebly.com
