YOUNG Riley Bowler thinks so much of his retiring head teacher he thought he would go straight to the top when inviting leaving party guests.
The Rockwell Green Primary School pupil wrote to the Queen to see if she could attend a leavers’ service for Peter Williamson, who is leaving at the end of the summer term after 20 years at the helm.
Riley, nine, said: “I was walking the dog when I thought we should do something for Mr Williamson’s retirement.
“Me and my sister thought it would be a good idea to write a letter to the Queen.
“A while later when my mum picked me up she said we’d been sent a letter. I couldn’t wait to open it and when I did saw it was a reply.”
Sadly, the Queen said she could not make the service on July 18 at All Saints Church, but Mr Williamson said he was delighted with the gesture.
He said: “Riley was bursting to tell me when he came into school and I couldn’t believe it – it was a fantastic thing to do and he’s a great kid.”
